" HOPE" Galveston Sculpture

Building a Legacy One Brick at a Time

Galveston artist Doug McLean has spent nearly three years creating his interpretation of the long lost circa 1904 Pompeo Coppini plaster study depicting the victims and survivors of the 1900 Storm, which was meant to be installed in Galveston over a century ago. Doug’s sculpture on its base will stand nearly nine feet tall, and will provide a powerful monument to the victims and the heroic rebuilders of the island. The Funding Campaign for the sculpture has commenced assuring that Doug’s clay study can be cast in bronze at a Texas foundry and be installed in Galveston within the 120th Anniversary year of the Great Storm. This will be a gift to the City of Galveston and its residents who have gallantly rebuilt the city after every storm since 1900.  We hope that you will join us in the fundraising effort as a benefactor for this important project. Your brick will be placed in a point of prominence near the sculpture upon installation
